Well. Today early morning (4 o’clock for me) Ludum dare mini have been started [link] It’s 48 hours game making thing just for fun. This time theme is VS and I got my idea. Though it is lame plagiarism in some way but it was saying to pick some famous characters :)

So part of it is maze. First I was thinking on making one maze and all. Like one level. But then I tough why not to make a maze generator. So after a day spent on thinking on game idea and in the end picking pretty lame one set down and made this in hour or so. Result is not so good tough in one way. But better in another way :)

Thing is that my generator makes rather random mazes looking more like caverns then those straight and cool looking usual maze like this [link]

So I don’t have much time to rewrite this thing so I decided to change it a little so that it may look more artificial then caverns. Added parameter of smoothness that controls algorithm providing possibility to create more straight mazes. Result was rather unexpected. It looked kind of yeah artificial but not of humans making :D With some weird triangular shapes in it. Play with small smoothness parameters to see that. Anyways tomorrow I will need to write some fast pathfinder for this and then my game will be 50% ready :D Or at least I hope so :D Wish me luck :D

Some explanation:

Smoothness – value from 0 to 1 which determines how smooth maze is. For 0 it is line like and for 1 it looks almost as some natural caverns.

Random passages – from 0 to 1 again. Percent of random passages from tunnel to tunnel. Play with it when smoothness is at 0 to see what it does better.

And click generates to generate new maze. Enjoy :D

P.S: This maze is 100x100 and algorithm generates mazes up to 400x400 instantly. Though they look so complex that playing them would seem a brain-breaking thing :)

Interesting. I draw mazes in my spare time (I have way too much spare time) mine are more fluid but this interests me.

Well I read Prim but kind of started from other end and got something that is well Prim by idea but not by code :D Was a pure accident :D
